Final Fantasy 10 Remake is currently in development, with an expected release window of 2026, according to rumors that have surfaced very recently.
The leak comes from ResetEra user Iam A Hero Too. They started a thread by casually asking the members whether any one of them liked Final Fantasy 10. After the users prodded them further, they asked if anyone knew when FF10’s 25-year anniversary will be. When some members replied it’s in 2026, they stated,
‘That’s the next remake. Not answering any questions about it, others know (including some in this very forum). It’ll hit for its anniversary’
Square Enix recently revealed the gameplay trailer and release window for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Besides, they are currently putting finishing touches on FF16, all the while working on FF7 Ever Crisis. Furthermore, Final Fantasy 9 Remake is also reportedly in the works, according to latest leaks. Considering the number of big projects at Square Enix’s disposal right now, it seems highly unlikely that they are working on FF10 remake on top of all these.
As it stands, a FF10 Remake in 2026 sounds a bit far-fetched, even considering it’s the 25-year anniversary of the original. However, it also does look like Square Enix is working its way up, remaking the games starting from FF7, although we still haven’t encountered any rumor in the wild related to Final Fantasy 8.
If this FF10 Remake rumor is indeed true, the main question is what this new remake will entail. Will it be another complete revamp like the FF7 Remake series? Or just a standalone game that will feature the same storyline with enhanced graphics and current-gen console support?
