The development of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is progressing smoothly and as per the team’s plans, according to Yoshinori Kitase, the producer of the game at Square Enix. The tweet from Final Fantasy 7’s official Twitter handle also mentioned that the developers are, in fact, working on finalizing a release date for the game.
While Kitase didn’t reveal any further information, we can expect to hear more about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth after the launch of the upcoming mainline entry, Final Fantasy 16, on June 22. There are many speculations about the possible release of the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, some expecting it to be in late 2023. However, a 2024 release sounds more plausible for this returning title.
Final Fantasy 7 is shaping up to be a separate mini-series in its own, being remade and reimagined several times. It has sprawled into six separate games, including a couple of spin-offs, a remake, and a multiplayer game.
The producers of the series recently divulged that Final Fantasy 7 Remake (released on PS4 in 2020, and on PC and PS5 the following year) would make up the first installment in the three part series recreating the entire campaign of 1997’s original Final Fantasy 7. While Remake covered the first part of the story going into detail about the harsh realities of the underbelly of Midgar, Rebirth will see Cloud and his party progressing to fight the oppressive Shinra Electric Power Company.
