God of War Ragnarok Valhalla DLC will release on December 12, 2023, as announced by PlayStation Studios at The Game Awards.
Valhalla is a free roguelike expansion coming to PS4 and PS5 next week. The trailer that surprised the audience at the TGA 2023 event gave players a glimpse of the new mode.
The new DLC will act as an epilogue to the game, set after the decisive battle at the end of GOW Ragnarok. As seen in the reveal trailer, Kratos (and Mimir) will enter Valhalla and face new enemies in a roguelike fashion.
The combat in God of War Ragnarok Valhalla will introduce experimental roguelite elements that will require players to make the best of Kratos’ arsenal. As they progress through the game, players will unlock rewards and resources that can be used for permanent upgrades.
As expected from a roguelite, Kratos won’t have access to armor (the armor outfit is for appearance only). There are five levels of difficulty for players to choose from, and each difficulty level offers different rewards. Thankfully, players will retain all their equipment and upgrade from the main game as they enter the new , independent expansion.
The PlayStation team said in its blog that it’s a “gift to our players” and reminded fans to complete God of War Ragnarok before jumping into the Valhalla DLC.
