Skul: The Hero Slayer has surpassed 2 million copies in sales, according to the game’s latest post on Steam. To celebrate this significant landmark, the game will be on a special 50% discount until January 18.
Developed by South Korea-based Southpaw Games, this beautiful pixel-art roguelike came out on January 21, 2021. The game was published by Neowiz, whom you might have heard of as the makers of one of the best Soulslikes this year, Lies of P.
Skul, as the currently highest-rated Steam review states, takes the best elements out of Castlevania, MegaMan, and MapleStory. Couple those with the crisp gameplay of Dead Cells—which is another modern roguelike with universal acclaim—you get Skul: The Hero Slayer.
The game even after almost three years of its release receives content and balance updates. The last major patch, 1.8.0, came out in November and added a new chapter titled “Demon King Castle Defense” among a multitude of other additions.
As someone who is wildly happy about the recent resurgence of roguelikes, this news is yet another testament to the appeal of this genre.
