Studio head Tony Hsu and game director Ryan Ellis said in an official statement,
“Building a new studio at scale has been an incredibly exhilarating and relentlessly daunting task. Fortunately, we’ve been supported by great partners throughout.”
They further added,
“Today we’re taking the next natural step and joining PlayStation Studios. We’ve worked closely with Hermen and the very talented team at PlayStation for years, helping to make our new game even better. To join PlayStation Studios is to formally become part of a family that has produced many of the most storied games of our age, and we are honored.
The terms of the deal have not been disclosed at the time of reporting, but industry insiders speculate that it was a substantial investment for Sony. However, SIE CEO emphasized that the acquisition is part of a long-term strategy to invest in first-party development and create unique gaming experiences for PlayStation players.
This acquisition is just the latest in a string of recent acquisitions by Sony, including Insomniac Games, the studio behind the critically acclaimed Spider-Man games, and Housemarque, the developers of Returnal. With this latest move, Sony continues to solidify its position as a leading player in the gaming industry, and fans can look forward to more exclusive titles coming to PlayStation consoles in the years to come.
