The Starfield trailer revealed that players will have the opportunity to recruit companions, a system similar to that of Skyrim. These Starfield companions will assist players in various aspects of their journey. They come with unique traits, skills, and abilities that can greatly enhance the player’s experience.
While there may be additional companions revealed closer to the game’s release, we currently have information on seven companions in Starfield:
- Adoring Fan
- Barret
- Sam Coe
- Sarah Morgan
- Vasco
- Marika Boros
- Heller
Let’s explore each of these companions in detail, including their abilities and how they can contribute to your adventures in the galaxy.

Sam Coe
Described as an “ex-space cowboy” by Lead Companions Designer Alan Nanes, Sam Coe likely has some history with the Freestar Collective faction and now works with Constellation. Sam Coe offers a measured and stoic personality and can also serve as one of the Starfield romance options.
Sam Coe’s skills

Sarah Morgan
Sarah Morgan holds the position of leader within the Starfield Constellation faction, a group of space explorers vital to the game’s main campaign. She is described as confident and headstrong and is expected to be a recurring presence throughout the main quest of Starfield.
Sarah Morgan’s skills

Vasco
Vasco is a bipedal robot owned by the Constellation faction, which serves as a versatile companion in Starfield. Acting primarily as a support companion, Vasco demonstrates its utility by efficiently repairing ships and assisting in various space travel tasks. Equipped with in-built weaponry, this heavy-industrial machine is also a formidable ally in combat situations, ensuring the safety and success of explorations across uncharted Starfield planets.
In a recent Reddit AMA (Ask me anything) with Todd Howard, when asked if there would be more robotic companions, the game director stated, “Yes, kind of”, opening the possibilities for more robotic Starfield companions along the road.
Marika Boros and Heller
Little information is currently available about Marika Boros and Heller, two crew members that can be recruited in Starfield. Marika is capable with ballistics, while Heller is skilled in outpost engineering and geology. These crew members can provide valuable support to players’ ships and outposts, though they won’t likely have dedicated storylines or romance options like the main companions.
Adoring Fan
A familiar character for Oblivion players, the Adoring Fan makes a return in Starfield. As part of the “Hero Worshipped” trait, the Adoring Fan will constantly appear near the player, providing praise and occasional gifts. We can safely assume he will not provide the best support in combat. Funnily enough, Bethesda hinted at a method to permanently remove him from your playthrough using a double barrel shotgun.
