Set in the land of Lumiere, Expedition 33 sees you control a party of individuals with diverse skill sets exploring a mysterious Continent inhabited by The Painter, the game’s antagonist. They are attempting to stop The Painter from wiping them out of existence, with the latter killing everyone of a certain age every year by drawing on a giant monolith.
The protagonists are the thirty-third such expedition to attempt this, meaning that several others have tried – and failed – to do so. It is a novel premise set in a land that promises a lot of twists and turns over the course of Clair Obscur’s narrative.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 brings an ensemble cast to the table, with its characters each having a distinct personality and their own motivation. Maelle is an orphan and quite skilled with her rapier, voiced by Jennifer English of Baldur’s Gate 3 fame.
