Zevlor is one of the more likable Tieflings in Baldur’s Gate 3. He is a great leader who is always looking out for his people and ensuring their safety. So, it should come as a shock for those of you who don’t have infernal engines for hearts to find out that the beloved leader of the Baldur refugees has been kidnapped by the cult of the Absolute. This is part of the quest line in the Shadow-Cursed Lands.
The ‘Find Zevlor’ quest in Baldur’s Gate 3 is triggered after you’ve finished the ‘Rescue the Tieflings’ quest. At the Last Light Inn, you’ll uncover that Zevlor froze in front of the cult’s ambush and tried to surrender. So, they took him away. You also find out that Zevlor could be in the Moonrise Towers. The quest log is quite ambiguous about the whereabouts of Zevlor, so you’ll need to do some exploring.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Find Zevlor quest: Find the Mind Flayer Colony
Progressing further in this quest involves an optional but potentially dangerous fight with the Mind Flayers. Furthermore, the Mind Flayer colony does not allow you to teleport back to camp or rest. So, it is best to prepare before venturing into the colony. The Mind Flayer Colony can be found if you proceed through an opening in the Moonrise Towers which appears after Ketheric Thorm has fled.
The map of the colony is pretty straightforward. You just have to head straight through a long corridor till you reach a large area ominously described as the ‘Tadpoling Centre’. Clearly, this is where ceremorphosis is induced. If you inspect the pods you’ll find that Zevlor is trapped in one of them. There are several other pods as well in this area with a whole bunch of Mind Flayer Thralls.
Decisions, Decisions…
Once you’ve found Zevlor in his pod, you’ll realize that it was the easier part of the quest. The difficult part is to now choose what to do with the situation. There is a biomechanical panel in the area by accessing which you are given two options. The first is to free Zevlor which means unlocking all the pods and the many Mind Flayers trapped within. Or simply purge the pods killing all the tentacled monsters along with poor unsuspecting Zevlor.
This is a decision-driven situation which means your companions are going to have something to say about it. By choosing the first option the nicer companions will appreciate that you freed Zevlor while Lae’zel and the like will disapprove.
If you choose to free Zevlor, he’ll narrate all the incidents that led to his capture including his encounter with the Absolute. To make amends, he directs you to the new whereabouts of Ketheric Thorm. When asked to join your Baldur’s Gate 3 party, Zevlor rejects citing his moment of weakness during his recent encounter with the Absolute.
