While out adventuring in different galaxies of Starfield, chances are you might have come across an enemy ship or two. Wouldn’t it be a cool moment if you could take over one of those ships and relive your fantasies of being the most powerful space pirate there ever was? Turns out, you can! All you need to do is destroy the ship’s engine before attempting to board.
If you’re unsure about the correct way to immobilize and board enemy ships, here are some tips that can help you win those space wars.
How to target enemy ship engines in Starfield?
Aimlessly shooting at the enemy ship might wreck it completely and destroy all the loot within. In order to successfully target the engine of any enemy ship you first need the “Targeting Control Systems” skill.
Targeting Control Systems Skill
Tier 1 of the Tech Skill Tree will have “Targeting Control Systems”. You need to spend one skill point to get it to Rank 1. This will unlock your own ship’s targeting functionality. Now all you need to do is target the enemy and shoot.
Destroy the Engine
- To destroy any enemy ship’s engine in Starfield, first, you need to keep that ship in your sight and press X (Xbox) or R (PC) to target lock it.
- Once you have the target locked, you will be able to see the health of specific parts of the ship. Focus on the engine and shoot till the health is completely zero.
- This will render the ship immobile and you will be able to board it once you get within 500 meters from where it is.
How to Board Enemy Ships in Starfield?
After the engines are destroyed, moving your ship closer will prompt the “Dock” option to appear. You can dock your ship using the X (Xbox) or R (PC) buttons.
Depending on your companions, some of them might not be happy with your decision to shoot and dock an enemy ship. But if want some good stuff, you may as well ignore them.
However, do be wary of enemies residing in those ships before attempting to loot. Once you have eliminated every enemy inside, you can loot everything and store them in your own cargo space.
Remember to check all the bodies, and every workbench for hidden loot ranging from medical supplies, and gear to better weapons in the game. You can even find contraband items in some of the cargo. All you need is a shielded cargo hold attached to your ship to smuggle these items to your planet.
