The side quests in Dragon’s Dogma 2 introduce some of the most interesting stories in the game. They can make even a lowly shopkeeper into something more interesting, especially in the case of the Short-Sighted Ambition quest. It’s one of the more memorable ones featured in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 – How to Complete Short-Sighted Ambition
You can’t access the Short-Sighted Ambition side quest until you make your way to Bakbhattal. Once you arrive, you’ll have plenty of activities to keep you busy. However, a visit to the Isaac’s Wares shop introduces a man named Isaac who is obsessed with a certain tome. To complete Short-Sighted Ambition, you must help Isaac either to realize his goal, or to accept failure.
The quest begins when you purchase an item (in my case, it was a Ferrystone) from the shop keep. He starts to hand you the wrong merchandise. Esmerelda, his wife, corrects him. Isaac then explains that his sight has been failing since he found a grimoire titled On the Transference of Souls. He suspects that if you can bring him a ripened quince, his sight will be restored.

If you’re like I was, you already have the fruit in your inventory. It seems to be a common find in the Battahl region. Just make sure your harvesting items from the trees along the trail that leads to the city from Checkpoint Rest Town. Enemies sometimes also drop them, I believe.
Deliver the ripened quince and then rest at your house or an inn for the night. Return to see Isaac again. Now, he is wearing an eyepatch. He has studied the text some more, despite the apparent risks. Now, he wants you to find him the second volume of his set of tomes. When you leave the shop and start to head away, Esmerelda captures your attention. She asks that you fail to provide her husband with the tome, even if you happen to secure it for yourself. Her daughter, Raelia, is of a similar mind.
To complete the quest, you must acquire On the Transference of Souls 2, a tome that Ibrahim sells at his shop in Checkpoint Rest Town. I had purchased it previously, so I had it stored in the trunk in my house in Battahl. However, I hesitated to deliver the tome to Isaac and so should you. It turns out the quest has two possible endings: a good ending and a bad ending.
You get the bad ending if you acquire On the Transference of Souls 2 and hand it over to Isaac. What he wants from you is bad for him, and bad for his family. If you hand over the tome, he’ll lead you to his house and some unpleasant events follow. Your reward in that case will be 3000 XP, plus you can check a nearby pile of sand for the Ring of Disfavor.
To get the good ending, you should instead have Ibrahim make a forgery of the On the Transference of Souls 2 tome. This produces a dud tome called On the Transit of Souls 2. It’s not quite the same thing, which is good. When Isaac takes you back to his house and reads from the forged text, nothing terrible will happen. Your reward in that case will be 3000 XP and 16000 G.
You can choose either ending. If you choose the bad ending, you will make Isaac’s shop available for use in another quest, but the shop is only one of several options you can use to complete that other quest. Therefore, I recommend going for the good ending instead.
