How To Use the Umbral Lamp In Lords Of The Fallen?
To use the Umbral Lamp in Lords Of The Fallen, simply press L-Ctrl on your keyboard, or LT on your controller. Your character will hold out the lamp with its light revealing the world of Umbral seamlessly blending into Axiom.
The Umbral Lamp will be there in your inventory immediately as you start your Lords of the Fallen journey and pick out your starting class. The lamp will help you solve puzzles, and discover hidden areas, pathways, and clues that cannot be detected by the naked eye. When you make enough progress in the game, the Umbral Lamp will unlock many more of its uses by various upgrades.
How To Visit Umbral
Your character has two lives in the game. If you die in Axiom you are taken to the Umbral world where you can explore without having to see through your lamp. But, if you end up losing your life in Umbral, then your character truly dies in Lords of the Fallen.
You can also visit Umbral by using your Umbral Lamp to create an Umbral Rift that can take you to the dead realm.
How To Leave Umbral
To leave Umbral you need to either find Ancient Vestiges, place Vestige Seedlings, or find totems that make you ‘Emerge from Umbral’. Otherwise, you are stuck in the dead realm fighting off enemies.

All Umbral Lamp Uses In Lords Of The Fallen
The Umbral Lamp has a handful of very important uses during the combat of Lords of the Fallen that can save your life in the Umbral realm of the game. But you also have to keep in mind that the more you venture into the Umbral, the more powerful enemies become in that world over time.
- Umbral Rift
- Soul Flay
- Soul Siphoning
What Is Umbral Rift In Lords of the Fallen?
The Umbral Rift is an Umbral Lamp ability that lets you create a rift to transfer you to the land of the dead, Umbral. An explosion of blue flames near your character marks the successful rift creation. To create the rift, simply press L-Ctrl+Q on the keyboard, or LT+X on your controller.
As soon as you enter Umbral through the Umbral Rift, a small icon on the right side of your screen starts the timer for your visit. The more you stay in the dead realm, the more the bar fills up and enemies start becoming stronger, ultimately becoming so strong, that even Souls game veterans might find it challenging.
If you are low on health while fighting the Umbral monsters, try to put down some Vestige Seedlings to restore your health.
Vestige Seedlings
Vestige Seedlings are checkpoints that can be placed on top of a bed of flowers to act as checkpoints for your game. This is where you will respawn and also restore your health while resting. Your Umbral Lamp will usually light up blue whenever you are near a flower bed to indicate its location.
The game will also strategically place Ancient Vestiges which in Dark Souls terms are bonfires where you can rest, restore health, upgrade, etc.
How To Use Soul Flay In Lords Of The Fallen?
Soul Flay is another Umbral Lamp ability for combat and can be used by hitting the L-Ctrl+R (LT+RT) keys on your keyboard. This ability allows you to lock on to your target and then pull your enemy’s soul out of their body. You can then proceed to shove the soul away from you, or even throw the soul off the edge which also throws your enemy’s body.
Soul Flay is quite handy if you want to slow down bigger enemies. Every time a Soul Flay is performed, it exhausts one Soul Flay charge and adds to your Withered Heart meter.
What Is Withered Heart And How Does It Work?
Withered Heart is a meter that appears on top of your health bar and fills up a little every time Soul Flay is performed and you attack your enemy’s soul. Once full, it can stagger enemies and let you do the “Grievous Strike” finisher.
Soul Siphoning In Lords Of The Fallen
Soul Siphoning is an Umbral Lamp ability where you can siphon Soul Flay charges, and Vigor (experience) from your fallen enemies. Stronger bosses have Umbral Parasites attached to them that prevent you from using Soul Flay or soul siphoning on their bodies.
Umbral Parasites
Umbral Parasites are little creatures that attach themselves to bigger hosts like Bosses and give their protection and extra buffs. In order to take down the bosses, you first need to take down these parasites.
To destroy them, use your Umbral lamp to unveil hidden parasites using Soul Siphoning and attack them in the Umbral world. Once the parasite is destroyed and the buff is gone, the boss can be taken down easily.
