According to Twitter user Aesthetic Gamer aka Dusk Golem, it is highly unlikely that fans will receive any official announcement about Resident Evil 9 this year.
While replying to a fan who was asking about updates regarding Resident Evil 9, Dusk Golem stated that as per his prediction a few months ago, the possibility of an official announcement about the upcoming Resident Evil game is very low. Resident Evil 9 is certainly one of the longest games in the series to be in development.
The last game in the series, Resident Evil Village, was released in 2021. As these games usually surface every three years or so, players were hoping to get their hands on the new one in 2024. However, since there are no new updates or official announcements even when we’re halfway through the year, it’s plausible to say that we won’t be getting our hands on Resident Evil 9 until 2025 or at least late 2024.
I said this a few months ago, but I don't suspect RE9 is being announced this year. If it is, I'll be VERY surprised. https://t.co/Ilqqj5wshD

Instead of releasing or even announcing the next game, Capcom had directed their efforts towards the remake of Resident Evil 4, which turned out to be one of the best-selling games of the series. Released in March 2023, RE4 Remake received a warm reception and kept fans satisfied as they waited for the next instalment. There have been some rumors about Resident Evil 9, however, Capcom has maintained silence on the topic.
According to Twitter user Rino, RE9 will be called ApocalXpse, using a combination of letters and roman numerals. He also claims that this game will not support co-op play but will be completely a single player campaign. He also refutes some of the claims made by Dusk Golem, such as the time of development. According to Dusk Golem, Resident Evil 9 has been in development for 6-7 years, however, Rino claims that the development has been in development for only two years and that Capcom will be heavily using assets from Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Village.

Additionally, Rino believes that we will receive an announcement for the game in October or November this year, which Dusk Golem finds highly unlikely. Who among these two is right, we will just have to wait and find out.
