Bethesda’s ambitious new space RPG, Starfield is set for launch in September, and one question in everyone’s mind is ‘will we have multiplayer in Starfield?’ The short answer is an emphatic ‘no’.
Like many of Bethesda’s RPG titles, Starfield lavishes on the concept of an open world. To say Starfield’s map is colossal is an understatement. The game is set to feature over a thousand planets across a hundred systems. Say what you might, but Bethesda never skimps out on its maps.
Bethesda clearly seems to have learned from the ‘fallout’ of Fallout 76. Todd Howard had made it clear in 2020 that Starfield will be a strictly single-player game. Also, the limitations of the Creation Engine 2, especially the Starfield framerate lock on consoles, are reason enough to give the idea of a Starfield Multiplayer a huge pass.
Although with modern RPG trends, we cannot entirely rule out the possibility of a hypothetical Starfield multiplayer or co-op being a thing in the distant future.
Can we have Starfield multiplayer/co-op in the future?
Not having a multiplayer feature in a game with a scale like Starfield is not a huge drawback. While Bethesda has borrowed many aspects from their Fallout and Elder Scroll franchises there are many new elements to be explored. There is heavy emphasis on customization and crafting too.

Besides, Bethesda makes great single player games with desirable RPG elements that have defined the genre. Storytelling, character development and customization elements are what made Fallout and the Elder Scrolls games so successful and Starfield is expected to follow the same path.
However, there is still hope for multiplayer fans thanks to Bethesda’s loyal and innovative modding community. Like a Skyrim Together project exists for Bethesda’s medieval RPG, we can all hope for a similar project to add multiplayer/co-op functionality to Starfield in the coming years.
