Switch 2 rumors have just been quashed by Nintendo President, Shuntaro Furukawa. During a financial call of the organization, Furukawa briefly addressed the rampant Switch 2 rumors. While he didn’t disclose any details about the company’s successor for one of their most successful consoles ever, he did disclose that ‘the rumors online that appear to be public information are not accurate’.
It was reported earlier in the year that Nintendo apparently had revealed Switch 2, with a demo of Epic Games’ The Matrix Awakens (Unreal Engine 5), along with an enhanced 4K 60 FPS version of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at Gamescom in August 2023. Furukawa denied the occurrence of this demo. He also denied the validity of several reports that stated Nintendo had briefed a number of game developers about the Switch 2 console in 2022.
Furukawa Claims Switch 2 Won’t Necessarily Feature Two Screens
Talking more about these rumors, Furukawa also cleared up some speculations about the Switch successor in relation to their newly registered patent. In October, Nintendo had applied for a patent for a handheld gaming console that featured two screens.
Many had correlated this patent to mean that Switch 2 will have two screens. However, according to Furukawa, the company had applied for this patent knowing full well that the information would be made public. However, he stated, “This does not mean that it will be installed in a product.”
Nintendo Aims To Sell 15 Million Switch Consoles By June 2024
Despite these announcements, gamers are having a hard time believing it to be true. Many claim that this is the standard Nintendo response, as the Japanese gaming giant has a record of denying any rumors until they are ready to announce things officially.
Furthermore, Furukawa has claimed that the company is still adhering to its Switch console sales target for the year. According to the report, Nintendo aims to sell 15 million units by fiscal year ending in 2024. This is the console’s seventh year and the numbers do seem pretty high. However, Furukawa has reiterated the organization’s decision to carry on.
To achieve this target, Nintendo has been introducing new Switch consoles bundled with evergreen and new Nintendo games. Furthermore, the company has also introduced a new Mario Red variant and some new bundles to accelerate sales this holiday season.
