The Grinch: Christmas Adventures is set to release for Nintendo Switch on October 13. The game is being developed by Outright Games in collaboration with Casual Brothers.
As it stands, there haven’t been many video games based on Dr. Seuss’s popular children’s books. The last Grinch game was released in 2000, following the release of the widely popular Jim Carrey movie, How Grinch Stole the Christmas.
The Grinch: Christmas Adventures will be a side-scrolling platforming game
The Grinch: Christmas Adventures is set to be a side-scrolling platforming game, wherein the players have to solve various Christmas-themed puzzles to help mean ol’ Mr. Grinch to terrorize the quaint village in order to ruin the festivities. Art style and designs for The Grinch: Christmas Adventures are heavily inspired by the original illustrations found in Dr. Seuss’s books. Players will be taking on the role of Mr. Grinch, trying to ruin the Christmas in Whoville, which is a colorful town inhabited by The Whos. Players will be accompanied by Grinch’s faithful and equally people-hating dog, Max, who will help them in their task of stealing the Christmas presents.
Upon completing various stages and levels in the game, players will be able to unlock various abilities as well as costumes to help them in their mission. These include abilities such as a jumping jetpack, lass candy canes, and costumes like Santa suit for disguising themselves to make sneaking easier. Players can also access snowboard and sleighs to make traversing across Whoville faster, easier, and more fun. Towards the end, as the Grinch movie and book fans will surely know, players will be enamored by the Christmas spirit and the game will probably end when the Grinch’s heart grows three times.
According to the CTO of Outright Games, Hernán Castillo,
“With The Grinch: Christmas Adventures we were motivated to create an accessible platformer that is fun, and can be played by fans of all ages. We’ve worked closely with Dr. Seuss Enterprises to determine how to remain faithful to the original story, and build the definitive interactive experience in game form, while also creating our own 2023 version of the Grinch, Max, and Whoville.”
