Rise of the Golden Idol is a new game from Playstack announced at the Game Awards this year. The trailer did not show much except for pictures on the wall and what we believe looks like a detective trying to put together an investigation.
Based on the golden idol shown at the end of the trailer and the title, we know that the game will center around this. The fact that the room is so filled with strings that link to each other shows that the investigation should take a while. There was no gameplay or information given, but there are some things we can surmise from what’s there. This may be a sequel to The Case of the Golden Idol.
There are notes in a notebook along with the message “No More Details on Olympus” written on top of what appears to be codes. The pictures hung up have no names on them but give faces that are distinct. The post-it notes on the items also have questions and information like “Holy?” and “Penitent.”
All this points to a mystery to be solved in the game, and considering it’s Netflix at the helm, it should be quite the puzzle to solve. It’s going to be available on Steam, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and Netflix surprisingly.
Netflix doesn’t usually have many games that have intense combat or graphics, so this may be a simpler game than we’re used to. This doesn’t necessarily mean it will be bad, the TellTale Minecraft game lasted on Netflix for a while and did pretty well. This could be something similar, like an adventure where you decide what the characters do and make your choices.
Many adventure games have proven that the detective formula works well without needing big combat or action sequences. We can see this game being one that will do well. It being shown at The Game Awards means it should have a lot of financial backing.
