While Ubisoft has yet to make an official announcement, evidence suggests the development of an Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag game might have quietly begun late last year. This is from a tweet that found some job listings that are eerily similar to the old Assassin’s Creed game.
As you can see from the tweet showing the image, this project may have started last year by Ubisoft Singapore, the studio behind both Assassin’s Creed and the upcoming pirate MMO Skull and Bones. Apparently, some staff were shifting some developers to an “Unannounced Assassin’s Creed Project” in September 2023. This coincides with Skull and Bones’ impending release, potentially freeing up team members for a new endeavor.
Adding fuel to the fire are LinkedIn profiles of several Ubisoft Singapore employees. These profiles list their current project as either an “unannounced project” or, specifically, an “unannounced Assassin’s Creed project,” all starting from September 2023. Among them are roles like project coordinator, lead artist, and lead cinematic designer.
While this isn’t definitive confirmation, it paints a compelling picture. The timing, personnel shifts, and project designations heavily hint at a potential Black Flag remake in the works. However, it’s important to temper expectations.
Ubisoft has not and likely will not comment on the matter. We have no official announcement or confirmation from the developer. Even if this is a Black Flag remake, the evidence implies we’re still several years away from release. The project appears to be in its early stages, so we wouldn’t have much to go off of anyway.
While official confirmation awaits, it makes sense that Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag would be the game that gets remade first. Black Flag was how many players came into the series, and it was the first game that moved away from its assassin routes, making sure anyone could jump in without knowing the backstory. They eventually do step into the assassin part, but only at the very end. This makes it a great stepping point to get players back into the older games in the series.
