The internet has been buzzing with rumors about the Mortal Kombat series getting a reboot, expected to be titled Mortal Kombat 1. Close to the heels of that report, we now have reason to believe that the Mortal Kombat reboot might guest-star Conan the Barbarian.
During a recent Xbox Two podcast, Jez Corden revealed new information about the character list of Mortal Kombat 1. Talking to Rand al Thor about the upcoming game, he discussed the possibility of NetherRealm including Conan the Barbarian as a guest character in the game. He advises, however, that the gaming community should take this information “with a pinch of salt”, as this might just be a rumor.
The Mortal Kombat series has a long history of including popular guest characters, with some included in the standard versions and others as DLC packs. And it would not be crazy to think that Arnold Schwezneger’s hit classic character Conan the Barbarian may make an appearance in MK1.
NetherRealm has included a wide range of movie characters in the last two games of the series, Mortal Kombat X and Mortal Kombat 11. Incidentally, a character played on screen by Arnold Schwezneger has previously made an appearance in MK11. We are talking about, of course, the Terminator.
Conan the Barbarian is one of the classic action heroes of the 1980s, portrayed on screen by Arnold. The character has also made an appearance in Marvel comics. Renowned for his super-human strength and durability, Conan is a rough, brutish behemoth, dedicated to destroying evil sorcerers.
Mortal Kombat fans would definitely be excited about gaining Conan the Barbarian as a special playable character, hopefully grunting as he beats the opponents down to pulp with his brute strength. The cherry on top would be the character screaming iconic lines such as:
“Run from me and I will tear apart mountains to find you. I will follow you to hell!”
Mortal Kombat has previously featured other notable action heroes in their games, including Robocop, the Terminator, Rambo, and Carl Weathers from The Predator.
Are there any other characters you hope would make their way to Mortal Kombat 1? Let us know in the comments.
