The developer Summerfall Studios offered a deeper look at their upcoming game Stray Gods in the Tribeca Games Spotlight. “Roleplaying musical” is essentially Summerfall’s coinage to encapsulate the experience of Stray Gods, that comprises “one part narrative-driven adventure and one part interactive musical”. You can also think of it as a musical visual novel embroiled with characters from the Greek mythology.
In the game, you assume the role of Grace – a fine young woman who stumbles upon an age-old secret that ancient Greek gods are real and hiding amongst us disguised as normal human beings. As Grace, you will be awarded the power of song by the last Muse. You will then have three days to prove your innocence in the mysterious death of the Muse before the Chorus, who are her strange relatives, come along to claim your life.
Stray Gods promises to be a choice-based adventure, where you decide how Grace responds to certain situations, and the choices you make branch out into different journeys for Grace. The game also features four other major characters—Freddie, Pan, Persephone, and Apollo—whose relationship with Grace can blossom into friendship, partnership, or even love, all based on the choices made by you.
The soundtrack for Stray Gods game is composed by the Grammy-nominated musician Austin Wintory. Moreover, many talented voice actors including May Elizabeth McGlynn, Troy Baker, Anthony Rapp, Rahul Kohli, Khary Payton, and Laura Bailey have lent their voices to different characters in the game.
The game was kickstarted as a crowd-funded project back in 2019 and it received overwhelming support and love from gamers. Back when it was announced, the game was called ‘Chorus.’
Stray Gods is set to launch for PC via Steam on August 3, 2023.
