Marvel has been making games ever since Spider-Man was everyone’s “my little secret” hero. Today, the Marvel games market has increased tenfold, and with the impending release of Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, Marvel’s Wolverine and Blade games, we are going to take a look at seven of the best Marvel games you should play in 2024.
As a rule of thumb, we are going to include games that are more easily accessible today. So earlier masterpieces like Marvel’s Ultimate Alliance or Ultimate Spider-Man will be excluded. However, we recommend that you give them a try should you have access to the last-generation consoles.
7. Marvel’s Midnight Suns
Marvel’s Midnight Suns reintroduced some of the most iconic characters in the Marvel Universe such as Blade, Magik, Wolverine, Scarlet Witch, Niko Minoru, and Storm to gamers. Disguised as a strategy/tactical RPG, Midnight Suns delivers a wholesome superhero experience where you can create your own character, interact with a vast ensemble of X-Men, Midnight Suns, and Avengers alike, and forge friendships with them.
The story has various acts and the combat requires strategic thinking to secure the win. Each hero plays differently requiring a varied approach to combat and the fine-tuned voice acting brings to life beloved characters on the video game screen. This is a must-try for people who have played Persona games before.
6. Deadpool
This might be the funniest Marvel game of all time. Although it does not have the award-winning combat system of the Arkham franchise, its ragdoll physics, gory kill animations, the sheer variety of weapons, and signature R-rated Deadpool humor more than make up for its shortcomings.
It might not be the go-to video game for someone looking for wholesome family-friendly entertainment, but if you have a few hours to spare and love Deadpool, this is the game you should download. It also doesn’t hurt that we have a third Deadpool movie releasing this summer.
5. Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy puts you in the shoes of their leader, Peter Quill/Starlord who has gotten the gang into some deep waters. Players take control of Starlord, but you also have access to other Guardians and their abilities. Each Guardian has unique traits that can be used to advance through the levels and in combat.
Peter Quill himself has elemental blasters with unique affinities that are useful in different situations. The story is well crafted and each character has something special to contribute. There is also a hub area where Star-Lord can interact with other Guardians.
4. Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite
It might not be the best fighting game to ever exist, but it continues the legacy of Marvel vs Capcom, which has been a boon for fans of both franchises alike. With more than 30 playable characters, this game has a story mode full of interactions between characters.
The biggest appeal of this game lies in its combat, the fan service, and the fact that we can all see our favorite characters work together to defeat villains. If that isn’t a perfect game day, then we do not know what is.
3. Marvel’s Spider-Man
This is the one that recently started the buzz for Marvel video games again. Marvel’s Spider-Man combines Peter Parker’s responsibility and Spider-Man’s story beautifully. It has tons of things to do ranging from side missions that involve rescuing pigeons to stopping street crimes and more. As the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, you have access to tons of gadgets and upgrades that can bridge the numbers gap and let you take on an army alone.
Marvel’s Spider-Man truly captures what it is like to be Spider-Man. If you ever get tired of doing missions in the game, you can just swing around since the web swinging is the best we have ever seen in any Spidey games.
2. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
The beginning of Miles Morales’ story from Marvel’s Spider-Man continues in this title. We dive head first into Miles and see how he is making an effort to be known not as just another Spider-Man but something more than that for his people. Harlem’s own Spider-Man has tons of adversaries, some closer than he might think, which makes for the standard emotional turmoil that affects every Spider-Man.
Just like Marvel’s Spider-Man, this game also gives Miles unique abilities that Peter does not have which makes gameplay fun and engaging. There are plenty of side missions that will keep you occupied should you finish the story in a hurry because you are too engrossed.
1. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
Insomniac Games had quite a challenge when it came to replicating the first two games of the Spider-Man saga and they delivered with this game. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has everything a Spidey fan would want, a big rogues gallery, two of the most popular Spider-Men and Venom. Venom was the most attractive aspect of the game and the symbiote delivered on every aspect.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 blends gameplay between Peter and Miles gloriously and delivers a satisfying, open-ended conclusion to both of their story. Fans will have a web-swinging experience of a lifetime with this title.
