Alfira is a Tiefling Bard NPC in Baldur’s Gate 3. You will encounter this charming yet troubled singer-songwriter in the game’s first act in Druid Grove. Hailing from the Asmodeus Tiefling race, she features strength, dexterity, constitution, intelligence, wisdom, and charisma of 10, while displaying zero attitude. Like many NPCs in Baldur’s Gate 3, she appears multiple times and while interacting with her is a choice, you can opt out of it, doing so will ultimately help you progress the story in a creative way.
NPCs in Baldur’s Gate 3
Baldur’s Gate 3 has created a massive world for hardcore RPG fans, with tons of side quests and a large number of NPCs. Interacting with these NPCs is quite rewarding for the players, as you get multiple combinations and varied gameplay outcomes based on how exactly you choose to interact with them. The characters in the game can be roughly divided into eight categories – good-aligned, neutral good, lawful good, chaotic good, lawful evil, chaotic evil, neutral evil, and evil-aligned.
Based on your own alignment as well as the unique interactions you have with NPCs, the outcome of the game’s story changes considerably. Interacting with some NPCs will give you certain rewards, while others can lure you into traps.

When you first encounter Alfira in BG3, she’s seen troubled, trying to finish writing an original song in memory and honor of her late teacher. You can stay and help her finish writing the song – by inquiring about her late teacher, whose memories help her complete writing her song. Alternatively, you can also take her up on her offer of picking up the extra Lute she has and playing alongside her to help her write the song.
You will be provided with multiple options for replies (like every NPC interaction in the game), with the topmost option highlighted in golden, suggestive of the quickest route to complete the interaction. However, this is a particularly unique interaction in the game’s first act, as the options for interaction with Alfira can vary from deciding to help her or quite literally crush her spirits by saying, “Perfectly awful. These are the worst lyrics I have ever heard.”

The interaction is presented as a challenge, where deciding what NOT to say is just as important as what to say. It is important that you help her finish writing the song, and encourage her, instead of discouraging and driving her away. You can select ‘let me see if I can help’, which will lead to Alfira blushing and offering an extra Lute (which is very dear to the character) to you in order to get you to help her finish writing the song. There are no skill checks involved to finish up this conversation.
Tip: Using a ‘speak with animals’ spell in front of Alfira in BG3 leads to some really interesting interactions. Alfira is surrounded by squirrels, who are patiently waiting for her to finish writing the song. However, they certainly seem grumpy and thoroughly unimpressed by the song played by Tiefling Bard. They keep passing comments about how this song is one of the worst things they have ever heard, adding a comic color to the proceedings.
The Dark Urge and Alfira in Baldur’s Gate 3
Once you guide her and help her finish writing the song, Alfira will perform the song for you and your party (which is quite melodic and pleasant to hear, much to the dismay of the mean squirrels). If you side with the Tieflings in your gameplay, you will then get an option to invite Alfira to the victory party organized in the Tiefling camp.
If you have selected ‘The Dark Urge’ as your origin in Baldur’s Gate 3, Alfira’s fate takes a drastically tragic turn. Once in your camp in the first act, Alfira will show up one night, asking to give her shelter at your camp in the night. If you accept and invite her in, the upcoming morning brings about a horrible revelation. When you wake up the next morning, you see that Alfira has been ripped apart and murdered quite violently during the night. You can choose to hide her body, wash the blood, or admit your crime to your Baldur’s Gate 3 companions.
What is Dark Urge in Baldur’s Gate 3
If you have chosen The Dark Urge origin, the character you control is unconsciously guided by a malevolent entity. This will result in the deaths of your companions and friendly NPCs as you go down a dark and evil path. Your past is said to be filled with violence, gore, and bloodshed.
