Best Loadout To Fight Automatons In Helldivers 2
From your primaries and secondaries to your stratagems, this is what your loadout needs to look like to destroy those Automaton scumbags with ease in Helldivers 2.
Best Weapons and Throwable
- Primary: CB-9 Exploding Crossbow
- Secondary: LAS-17 Dagger
- Throwable: Thermite Grenade
The CB-9 Exploding Crossbow is by far the best primary weapon for an Automaton loadout in Helldivers 2. It can take down a Devastator with ease and can even two-shot a Rocket Strider. One of the most important things in this loadout however is the One-Handed trait on the Crossbow that will allow us to use a Ballistic Shield as one of our stratagems, more on that later.
When it comes to your secondary, this is what will handle the smaller robots that close the distance on you. The LAS-17 Dagger makes quick work of these bots and is able to handle a crowd of them as well since it now has DoT fire damage.
Lastly, the Thermite Grenade as your throwable will allow you to take down the boss enemies like the Hulk and the Tanks, one well-placed Thermite that gets stuck on them is all you need to destroy them. Make sure to cook the grenade for a second to make the spikes come out to ensure it sticks to your target.

- Defense Mission Loadout:
- EMS Mortar Sentry

For your Support Stratagem Weapon, you can either go with the Anti-Material Rifle or the Railgun. The Anti-Material Rifle is more versatile and can be used to manage a bigger crowd of large enemies as well as some of the boss enemies like the Hulk. However, it will take multiple shots and a precise aim to use it effectively.
The Railgun on the other hand allows you to one-shot these boss enemies with the unsafe mode but makes you rely on the Exploding Crossbow for everything else. Your playstyle and what suits you best should determine this choice of your main support stratagem weapon.
For assault missions, we will go with things like an Eagle Airstrike which helps quickly destroy Automaton Fabricators, and the Ballistic Shield which allows you to cover the distance to any Automaton base or any while under fire. The Exploding Crossbow is a great primary weapon to use in combination with the Ballistic Sheild as you can have the shield up and shoot the weapon at the same time.
For defense missions, go with something like an EMS Mortar Sentry or the Rocket Sentry to help you handle the overwhelming numbers of Automatons. Besides that, you can take the Orbital Laser in any mission type as it has devastating power to destroy both boss units and structures.
The same goes for the Shield Backpack which has always been a solid choice for the best Automaton loadout in Helldivers 2 no matter the mission. However, you cannot use the Ballistic Shield if you are choosing the Shield Backpack so don’t end up mistakenly taking both for your stratagems.
Best Armor Passives
- Med-Kit: Gives you +2 Stims holding capacity and increases Stim effect duration by 2 seconds.
- Engineering Kit: Reduces recoil when crouching or prone by 30% and increases your holding capacity of grenades by +2.
- Fortified: Reduces recoil when crouching or prone by 30% and gives you 50% explosive damage resistance.
Survival is the name of the game when it comes to fighting Automatons because, unlike the Terminids, they constantly pressure you with suppressive fire and DoT damage. These armor passives mentioned above should be what you look for in your chosen armor.
