If you’re playing Destiny 2 and trying to finish the seasonal challenge for Specimen ID: NES003, you might be wondering why you can’t find the quest. You’re definitely not alone. This guide will explain why Act 2, where the NES003 quest is supposed to be, hasn’t started yet.
Why Won’t Specimen NES003 Act 2 Start In Destiny 2?
Following the conclusion of week three in Echoes: Act 1, players finished the story quest “A Rising Chorus.” Unlike the previous two weeks, there’s no follow-up quest for NES003. This means a missing research bay and upgrade for Failsafe, along with the unavailability of the Research and Development III seasonal challenge. What is crazy is that it should have already come and been fixed, since it’s officially been an issue since June 16th. Act 2 of Echoes officially began on July 16th, but there’s no progress on the NES003 questline.

So this is not just a bug, but a really bad one. In fact, Bungie has acknowledged this issue in their forum and the development team is working on it now. Now, the expectation is that the NES003 quest will be introduced later in Act 2. Hints point towards a story focusing on infiltrating the Vex Network to uncover more about the recently revealed “Conductor,” a mysterious entity leading the Vex. This focus on the Vex Network could be how players eventually acquire Specimen NES003.
Is There A Fix For Specimen NES003 Bug?
For now, players will need to wait for further developments in Act 2. There’s absolutely no way you can fix this issue. We’ll just say it’s a good idea to complete the Encoded Log quest. This unlocks the Enigma Protocol activity, which might play a role in future Act 2 quests.
If this wasn’t a bug then Bungie would have said so in the above mentioned forum post. It seems like a real issue that we’ll have to wait for.
