Sea of Thieves caught the world by storm when it was originally released for PC and Xbox in 2018. Now, with its release on PS5, many new players are eager to jump in and experience one of the best pirate games out there.
A lot of these players were recommended the game by PC and Xbox players but does Sea of Thieves have crossplay so PS5 players can play with them? Let’s find out.
Does Sea of Thieves Allow Crossplay?
Yes, Sea of Thieves is crossplay and allows players playing on PC, Xbox consoles, and PS5 to play together in a single lobby. The game always had cross-platform capabilities between its PC and Xbox versions and this now also applies to PS5 on launch.
New players will simply need to complete the introductory tutorial quest, after which they will be able to party with their friends regardless of the platform everyone is playing on. This feature is absolutely necessary for a persistently online game like Sea of Thieves.

Not only that, but the game encourages partying up and playing with friends to form your own pirate crew, each with their own roles. The game’s core mechanics have teamwork built into it, such as operating a large-sized ship, which requires multiple things to be manned at the same time, something that is next to impossible as a solo player.
Xbox players have been asking for a console-only lobby too, which is getting even more traction now since PS5 players are joining that pool. So far, the lobbies are planned to be the same but we can only hope for Rare to give us a console-only lobby in the future.
