Vocations play a significant role in Dragon’s Dogma 2. They determine what skills you can learn and what gear you can equip. You’ll want to experiment with a variety of vocations over the course of your journey, but you’ll need to unlock them first. One of the earliest vocations you can unlock is the Sorcerer vocation.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 – How to Find the Archistaff and Unlock the Sorcerer Vocation
Early in the game, you visit a worker at the guild and then a nearby blacksmith to activate the Vocation Frustration quest. The quest presents general objectives you should meet to unlock two vocations: the Warrior and the Sorcerer vocations. To unlock the Sorcerer vocation, you must find the Archistaff in Trevo Mine.
You will find Trevo Mine at the location indicated in the above map screenshot. The mine lies to the west and slightly north from Vernworth. There is a campfire site not far from its entrance, in case the journey west has taken a lot out of your party.

Venture into the mine and make your way toward the back. Because you will be underground, consider bringing along your Lantern and some Lantern Oil. You want to be able to see the goblins that populate the area, and the light makes it easier to navigate the winding passages. Brave soul that I am, I explored the entire mine without the extra light. Most of the key areas do at least have torches burning.
Your goal is the back portion of the area. On the lower level of a large chamber with several enemies and some ruined bridges, check along the back wall. You should spot an opening that leads along a short passageway not shown on the map. See the below screenshot for the location of the entrance to that hidden passage on the Trevo Mine map.
At the end of the passage, you’ll find a treasure chest. Open the chest to acquire the Grievous Horns, which is an archistaff that satisfies the quest’s requirements. Next, exit the mines and return to Vernworth.
When you reach Vernworth once more, visit the guild to show off your new equipment to Klaus. He grants immediate access to the new Sorcerer vocation. Additionally, you receive 1200 XP and 7500 G, and the local armory will start stocking suitable equipment.
