The Thaumaturge starts you off as a Thaumaturge who only has one Salutor tamed. But as you progress and explore the old streets of Poland, you become stronger and tame more Salutor beings while also unlocking powerful new attacks and upgrades.
Besides the main quests and side quests, exploration is by far the fastest way to gain XP. However, there are more.

Do Side Quests

Main quests are gonna push the narrative forward but don’t miss out on those side quests. Side quests can net you a lot of XP quickly especially if it involves combat. You can also unlock certain dialogue options later on based on the completion of certain side quests.

Pick Fights

When exploring the map, you can often find people quarreling or simply sitting on a bench that you can talk with. Many of these conversations can lead to a fight. Don’t be shy about provoking these optional fights as it won’t affect any quests. You should always choose to fight whenever possible as winning combat encounters gives you a lot of XP.
Find Points Of Interest

As you explore the streets, you will often find certain things or places that have a star icon on them. These are collectible drawings where Wiktor will interact with something or someone and draw about it to remember it. You can later view these drawings in your inventory and doing these gives you some decent XP which adds up if you find a lot of them.
Find Viewpoints

Just like the drawing collectibles, these are also viewpoints marked by a Star on your map. When you get to one of these, it will be marked with a yellow circle on the ground with an icon of binoculars above it. Interacting with these shifts your camera from the isometric view to give you a more grounded angle of the place, and they also give you some decent XP.

Find Optional Observations

Sometimes you might find an Observation that gives you a brochure for a drawing class or a note that eludes to a secret fighting ring. The Conclusion for these Observations will point you to these places.
Make sure that when you do find the Conclusion to these optional Observations, you make it your active quest and use your Focus to point yourself to these events. Wiktor will simply make a drawing of it and come out, which will give you a nice chunk of XP as it’s counted as an optional side quest.
