While managing your town, dealing with infrastructure, and constructing roadways in SteamWorld Build, you will come across certain mineshafts in the game. These mineshaft leads to various treasures and riches hidden underneath but are locked behind door-like mechanisms that need your expertise to be unlocked.
Here’s how you can unlock those mineshaft doors in SteamWorld Build and become a prosperous mining town.
How To Unlock Mineshaft Doors In SteamWorld Build?
To unlock mineshaft doors in SteamWorld Build you will need to locate and then activate three levers that seem to be connected by colored wires inside the Dusty Caverns mine.
Although some levers might be easy to locate, the others will be hard and you will need the help of your Miners to excavate sections to look for them. You will also have to make sure your Miners don’t fall off of chasms and build some bridges to walk across.
Keep in mind, that your Miners cannot break through bedrock, so you must find alternative ways to look for these levers. If you haven’t unlocked the mineshafts in the first place, then that should be your first order of business.

How To Repair Mineshafts?
Your initial mineshaft will require major upgrades before you can access the underground mines. You will need:
- 8x Boards (You need Foresters and Lumber Mill)
- Connected Train Station (Road leading to train station)
- 18x Engineers (Worker’s needs can be satisfied to upgrade them to Engineers)
- 1200 Money
Once you have gathered everything and progressed with the upgrade, you will be able to access the Dusty Caverns and start mining underneath.

How To Repair Mineshafts For New Floors In SteamWorld Build?
You will be able to discover the mineshaft leading to the second underground floor of Dusty Caverns with the help of your Miners clearing the first-floor area. But, before you can head down, you need to repair the mineshaft and upgrade it. The items you need are:
- 40x Boards
- 25x Sheet Metal ( Build a Sheet Metal Factory that processes Ironium)
- 10x Aristobots (Satisfy Engineers’ needs to turn them into Aristobots)
- 1500x Money
