Over the years, Call of Duty players have become increasingly annoyed with every new CoD title. This is because players want the original feel of CoD back, which has been missing in recent years. Ex-CoD developers felt the same and went on to create their own FPS shooter, XDefiant. But the question is, is XDefiant anything like Call of Duty in its good old days?
Does XDefiant play like Call of Duty?

Yes, XDefiant is a fast-paced first-person shooter played on arena maps like Call of Duty. But one key difference is that it only features objective-based game modes rather than kill-count-based ones like TDM, free-for-all, kill-confirmed, etc.

There are a lot of similarities between XDefiant and Call of Duty, and you would expect that since ex-CoD developers made it. Things like the loadout and attachment systems are more or less the same.
However, instead of perks, you have Factions you can choose at the start of each game. These have different passive perks associated with them, and you can also choose between two special ultimate abilities in each Faction.

The ultimate abilities need to be earned by playing the objective or getting eliminations, similar to kill streaks and score streaks in Call of Duty. This is more akin to hero shooters like Overwatch, and it would make sense since XDefiant also has progression game modes like the classic payload escort mode, which is one of Overwatch’s core modes.
Ultimately, XDefiant is most similar to Call of Duty but also borrows gameplay elements from hero shooters like Overwatch to become the best of both worlds. It is yet to be seen if Ubisoft decides to add traditional CoD game modes to XDefiant in the future, like TDM, or even one-life modes like S&D.
