For example, a water type Pal you are pitted against may know some ground type moves, thereby making a purely electric-type Pal an unfit choice. You still need to pay attention to your enemy’s fight moves and patterns and shouldn’t rely solely on your Pal’s elemental strengths and weaknesses.
