Mio and Zoe’s adventures in Split Fiction have captured the hearts and minds of many players who swear by Hazelight Studios’s quirky co-op gameplay loop and memorable narrative. The game features unique mechanics that work well with boss battles. Some bosses, however, can be harder to figure out than others. The Treasure Traitor in Split Fiction’s fifth chapter is a great example, requiring players to work very well together to take him down.
Where to Find the Treasure Traitor in Split Fiction

The Treasure Traitor is one of the main bosses in The Rise of the Dragon Realm and is found after the Dragon Slayer encounter and an excellent puzzle involving four eggs and a dragon statue which we won’t spoil in this guide. Solving that puzzle leads the two heroines to the Treasure Temple.
The Treasure Traitor can be found as soon as Mio and Zoe enter the Temple. This armored turtle can be quite a pain to deal with, launching attacks with deadly speed while being quite hard to pin down unless both players are able to survive long enough to present a united front. However, a bit of patience and strategy goes a long way in overcoming this threat and beating one of the game’s most memorable boss fights. Here is how we did it.
How To Defeat The Treasure Traitor
It is useful to know exactly what Mio and Zoe are capable of before diving into the Treasure Traitor’s varied attacks and phases. While Mio’s dragon can jump, glide, and launch a stream of acid at her targets, Zoe’s dragon can jump, roll, and dash with hers. Using these skills well is a necessity in the multi-phase boss battle with the Treasure Traitor.
Phase One

The fight begins in a giant ring that the Treasure Traitor circles, and it has three main attacks:
- spawning bright swords from the ground that follow a zig-zag pattern. These can be easily avoided by jumping over at the right time
- fiery pillars that radiate from the center of the ring. Again, a well-timed jump should ensure you don’t take any damage from this
- The Treasure Traitor throws bombs in between the above attacks: If Mio gets hit, she gets encased in a crystal shell that Zoe will have to roll into to break. If Zoe gets hit, she gets wrapped in a spiral metal cage that Mio will have to melt with her dragon’s acid breath.
However, those bombs are also the key to taking down the Treasure Traitor: melting their shields with Mio’s acid attacks allows Zoe to roll into them, launching them at the boss for some damage. Remember that they do not last long after losing their shields, so timing Mio’s acid attacks very important.
It can be tricky to avoid the boss’ swords while also dealing with the bombs but treating the fight like a battle of attrition allows Mio and Zoe to whittle away at its health and trigger the next phase.
Phase Two

Things begin to get dicey as the Treasure Traitor dives into the ring and takes a more hands-on approach to removing Mio and Zoe from the Treasure Temple’s grounds. Aside from its bombs, the boss forgoes its attacks from the first phase, replacing them with slams that send out fiery shockwaves across the ring in addition to a spinning attack with swords sticking out of its shell.
The strategy remains the same, though: removing the bombs’ shields with Mio and launching them at the boss with Zoe. This causes damage to its massive health bar, eventually stunning it briefly. Once again, Mio and Zoe must work together when it is down, using their dragons’ acid breath and roll attacks in that order on the Treasure Traitor’s head to cause a lot of damage.
Rinse and repeat this process a few times and the Treasure Traitor eventually gets flipped onto its back. This allows Mio and Zoe to get on either side of it and push it into a vat of molten gold, ending the boss fight once and for all.
While the Treasure Traitor can be an intimidating fight at first, learning its attack patterns and animations makes this fight a lot easier. Split Fiction players will do well to remember that it’s all about coordinating their attacks, and maintaining a steady stream of damage without allowing Mio and Zoe to get overwhelmed by its attacks.
