Starting classes in RPG games tend to define your early game build and combat style. Similarly, the Blade Sharpening Origin you choose in Rise of the Ronin determines which initial skills you will start off with as well as which weapons you will have proficiency with.
In this guide, we take a look at what each origin means, and which one is the best for you.

All Blade Sharpening Origins In Rise Of The Ronin
There are six different Blade Sharpening Origins you can choose from in Rise of the Ronin:
- Killer
- Breaker
- Seducer
- Sapper
- Beginner
- Unsharpened
Since the game is fast-paced and focuses on stealth as well, you should pick the Breaker class that excels in the Dex stat and starts with certain Dex skills already unlocked. However, at the end of the day, it’s about what suits your playstyle the most.
Keep in mind that all skills can be obtained later in the game anyway. Origins just determine which early skills you get pre-unlocked and also how your stat points are distributed.
Killer
Special Skill: Repel Arrows/Bullets (Counterspark) – Ability to deflect arrows and bullets back at the enemy by parrying.
The Killer is your strength-based class that uses heavy weapons and prefers melee combat over ranged. This class also gets some added health due to the higher strength stat as well as the ability to intimidate. Best for players who just want to push through everything in their way.
Breaker
Special Skill: Rapid Assassinations – Can kill two targets back-to-back during stealth assassinations.
This is a fast and agile class that focuses on speed and also ranged attacks. On the other hand, it also largely encompasses all the stealth-based abilities. This class is overall the best, in my opinion. Go for this one especially if you love to sneak around and assassinate enemies.
Seducer
Special Skill: Speechcraft ‘Liar’ – Able to choose the dialogue option to lie during certain conversations.
If you want to be able to talk your way out of anything, the Seducer is the way to go. Don’t be fooled though, as it still excels in combat with long-reaching melee weapons and has great stamina management.
However, I would not recommend this as your starting class since these conversational abilities can be obtained later and aren’t needed as much in the early game.
Sapper
Special Skill: Refill Up (Medicine Pills) – Regains an additional Medicine Pill when resting at banner checkpoints.
This is an intelligence-forced build that relies heavily on ranged attacks. It also excels at crafting, so it will open up crafting possibilities sooner than later as long as you have the items required. It also has the potential for elemental status effect damage builds.
Beginner
This is your typical blank slate class that starts with average stats on everything, and no skills are unlocked. However, unlike the other Blade Sharpening Origins where skills are pre-unlocked, this one gives you six Skill Points and lets you decide the initial skills you want. This is great if none of the above Origins play into the type of character you want to play.
Unsharpened
If you are looking for a challenge, the Unsharpened Origin intentionally gives you nothing to start with. This is also another classic class choice for players who want to play as an untrained ronin and rise from nothing. This class should only be picked if you are looking for extra challenge in the early game.
