Spider-Man 2 data mining has revealed many things that were cut from the game. Recently, Twitter user @Saulman11835779 uncovered evidence of several cut bosses, expanding the game’s roster of what-ifs and missed opportunities.
The tweeted data mined content showcases four symbiote villains originally intended for the game but ultimately removed: Riot, Lasher, Agony, and Phage. These four symbiotes, created by the Life Foundation in the comics, would have added a significant layer of complexity to the story and presented unique challenges for players to overcome.
The leaks offer glimpses into their designs and potential roles. Riot appears as a large, blueish Venom-like creature, while Lasher, still in a T-pose, reveals its whip-like tendrils for arms. The images show Agony, a female Venom with sharp teeth and claws, and Phage, boasting a yellow body and razor-sharp appendages, rounding out the group.
Seeing them all really makes me feel that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 should have been delayed for a year. We could have seen these bosses in the game, and it would have had a better chance of winning Game of the Year if these were bosses. They’re rushing these games out, and they’re not reaching the potential they could have.
While the specific reasons for their removal remain unknown, whether due to time constraints or development challenges, their presence in the game’s files sparks speculation about what could have been. Their inclusion would have undoubtedly expanded the narrative and offered more interactions with the Life Foundation and potentially deeper exploration of the symbiote threat.
So, while Spider-Man 2 may not have featured these symbiote villains in its final release, their presence serves as a reminder of the game’s potential. We can at least expect them to come in the third game along with Carnage. If they don’t expand on this and take the time needed to make a better game, they’ll just end up losing another game show all because they wanted the game out sooner.
