Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, the first and seemingly the only expansion for the game, is rumored to be launching in August this year, according to Tyler McVicker.
Tyler has primarily been a reliable leaker in terms of Valve-related insider information. His track record also shows he has solid sources in CD Projekt Red as he correctly predicted last year that the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion would be shown off during The Game Awards 2022 show. With Phantom Liberty getting a spotlight in Summer Game Fest next week, we don’t have to wait long to verify Tyler’s claim.
We still know very little about the Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion. Based on the things revealed in the teaser trailer shown at The Game Awards 2022, the new expansion is set in a hitherto unexplored district in Night City called Godtown. It features a new character called Reed, who has been revealed to be voiced by popular English actor Idris Elba.

We can also expect the marketing campaign for the expansion to begin in full force following the showcase at the Summer Game Fest. Hopefully, taking a lesson from the base game’s overhyped and overpromised marketing campaign, CDPR will keep it concise and faithful to the product this time.
Prior to Cyberpunk 2077, CDPR was untouchable when it came to delivering post-launch content updates. The Hearts of Stone and the Blood and Wine expansions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are still the gold standard in the gaming industry. With Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty being a similar project to the Witcher 3 expansion in terms of scope, CDPR may finally shine and deliver the kind of experience that Cyberpunk fans have always wanted.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and Xbox One. The Phantom Liberty expansion is slated to be launched before the end of the year on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S only.
