A new Nier game may be on its way, according to a sneaky tease by the series creator Yoko Taro at the Nier Orchestra Concert held in London on February 14.
As reported by an attendee fan SanTheSly on ResetEra, Yoko Taro made a surprise appearance at the London Concert which also had Square Enix president Takashi Kiryu in attendance. Taro requested the audience to “give the loudest applause” to convince Kiryu for a Nier sequel.
However, that’s not all. What gives the Nier 3 tease more credence is the word ‘REPENT’ appearing on-screen multiple times during the “story of the show”. SanTheSly writes, “The final instance was spelled as R3PENT. Both me and the person I’d gone with picked up on it and wondered if this was a tease.” If you ask me, this seems like a tease for sure.
After Nier Automata and Nier Replicant (which is the remaster of the first Nier game), the franchise has waned, at least in terms of mainline entries. In a way, Nier: Reincarnation, the mobile Gacha spin-off title by Tencent, can be called the third entry in the series. However, it is slated to shut down in April this year.
Now as it seems from Yoko Taro’s reported tease, I see enough reasons to believe that Nier Repent will be the true third entry to the critically acclaimed series.
