The Mezan Studios offered the first in-depth look at their debut title, Nightscape, during the Tribeca Games Spotlight during the Summer Game Fest 2023. This magical 2.5D adventure indie revolves around a budding astronomer, Layla, who has been tasked with reuniting the fallen stars that make up Arabic constellations in the night sky.
You will play as Layla, accompanied by her magical astrolabe and a reanimated constellation named Goat Kid, on her journey through the night. She has to restore stars back to the broken constellations to seek her path back home. The game has interesting platforming elements, with loads of puzzles and levels to get through, as well as mythical enemies to battle. As the game progresses, players will have to solve engaging puzzles with the help of completed constellations, who will bestow their powers of winds, rains, and other elemental forces to help Layla complete her journey.
In the newly founded studio in Doha, Qatar, Mezan Studios developers were fascinated by the Arabic constellations. These constellations are completely different from the ones found in the Western culture and have fascinating backstories about their origin. Through the game, players will learn about the stories of various mythical figures that make up these constellations. The developers aim to create a mesmerizing experience for the players while enlightening them about the rich folklore found in Middle Eastern mythologies.
The footage showed Layla armed with a magical astrolabe, as well as some other interesting tools and weapons, such as grappling hooks and bow and arrows, to help her along her treacherous journey filled with enemies like giant scorpions.
Nightscape is expected to release later in 2023 for PC.
