Void Interactive, developer of the popular FPS Ready or Not, has joined the list of popular video game developers who have fallen prey to hackers.
According to an exclusive report by Insider Gaming, over 2.1 million files amounting to 4TB of data was stolen from the developer’s records. While the hackers got access to the database in March, Void Interactive hasn’t publicly acknowledged the incident.
Allegedly, a ransom group was responsible for the breach, although their identity remains unknown. The Insider Gaming staff claim to have been “shown the contents of the files taken under the condition they aren’t republished”. The stolen files reportedly include the entire source code of Ready or Not. Interestingly, some of the code was for the console builds of the title along with performance tests for the same.
Insider Gaming claimed that the hackers showed them images of a PS4 test running the stolen Ready or Not console build. The group was also in possession of build date for the PS5, Xbox One, and Series X|S. This could very well be an indication of Ready or Not getting a console release sometime in the near future.
Data breaches can potentially cause irreversible damage to even the most promising projects, ultimately hurting the industry as a whole. Video game developers, especially the AAA houses, seem to be in dire need of stronger security measures. As for Void Interactive, the developer is yet to make a statement about their latest security disaster.
