Another patch is reportedly inbound for Skyrim Special Edition, according to Skyrim Script Extender (SKSE64) team’s ianpatt. This will follow the large 1.6.1130 update on December 5 which added Creations—Bethesda’s second foray into paid mods—among other things.
The recent update already broke many indispensable functionalities of the Script Extender utility. Since a lot of other mods depend on Script Extender to function, they too were broken in the aftermath.
While many mod authors are hard at work making their mods functional with the since-updated Script Extender, a significant number of mods need to be updated. As a result, players on the latest Skyrim version are left with broken modlists for the time being.
The most affected has been SkyUI and other mods that depend upon it. This was due to Bethesda making changes to the Skyrim Special Edition’s main menu to make way for ‘Creations’.
At this juncture, yet another patch might once again nullify the mod authors’ hard work. This would be avoidable if Bethesda employed a more collaborative approach with the wider modding community. Since that’s not the case, it’s hard not to expect the worst.
If you are one of the unfortunate Skyrim mod users who is regretting updating to 1.6.1130, you can use the Downgrade Patcher and get your game back to pre-Creations glory days of 1.6.640. You can find step-by-step details on the procedure in the Reddit post embedded below.
While you’re at it, we also recommended that you stop automatic update downloads for the game (steps mentioned in the same Reddit post above) until all the mods you use are updated to the latest Skyrim Special Edition patch.
