The new Tekken 8 is just around the corner and the preparations have begun for the closed beta test, which is starting on October 20. But before that, many of the alternate outfits featured in the game have been leaked.
An X (formerly Twitter) user, Ultraboy, found alternative outfits for 17 of the characters featured in Tekken 8 by datamining from the beta build.
The leak features three alternate outfits of some of the iconic Tekken characters such as Jin, Jun, Kazuya, and many more.
Why Doesn’t Tekken Simply Bring Back The Classic Outfits?
One question that has always been circulating among the fans is, Why doesn’t Tekken just bring the widely-loved classic outfits from the 90s? Well, to answer that question, Katsuhiro Harada, the Director of Tekken 8 replied to one of the fans with a similar request. He said that the classic outfits were meant for the older generation consoles such as PSX, and had very little ‘information density’.
Hence, Harada mentioned, “It would feel quite unsatisfactory to just make it HD to match the current graphics level. Even if the texture of the clothes is improved, the plain feeling remains strong, so after all, a large design arrangement is required.”
According to him, the task of simply reprinting the classic outfits is far more complicated than it seems. It requires a heavy design change such as changing the textures, wrinkles, color depth, etc. so that the quality is up to par and matches today’s standards.
