The Outlast Trials, the co-op spin-off of the popular survival horror game Outlast, is now in early access. Red Barrels is providing players with an opportunity to test their luck in escaping the horrifying experiments of the Murkoff Corporation, whether they choose to brave it alone or join forces with friends. Gamers can play with a party of up to 4 friends in a combat-based survival game.
Though The Outlast Trials early access is currently only out for PC, the developers plan on releasing the game on as many platforms as possible. Release date for the final version of the game is currently unknown.
Red Barrel Games have stated that once the game releases on multiple platforms, they plan on implementing cross-platform play. They also mentioned their plans for not supporting cross-progressions in the game, so players will have to stick to their platform to maintain progress.
The Outlast Trials download available now via early access
With The Outlast Trials early access released on May 19, the game has received extremely positive reviews on Steam from over 2000 users, making it a successful soft-launch. The game is available in the USA for $30 in early access on Steam and Epic Games Store. The price of the game for the UK is set at £25 while costing €29 in Europe.
The game includes familiar elements from the Outlast series, such as hiding and sneaking around to survive. But the latest title emphasizes on the new mechanics that have been added that allow players to defend themselves while fighting enemies in a multiplayer party. Players also have the option to customize their character and playstyle based on their preferences.
The success of Outlast and Outlast 2 on consoles
The first two games of the Outlast series have been extremely successful across all platforms. The titles have become a household name for horror fans, with many in line to play The Outlast Trials. The new twist in the gameplay mechanics is a huge step for Red Barrel Games with the direction they plan on taking the series, and we can’t wait to see them release the game on last-gen and current-gen consoles.
