The Rune of the Wolf in Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the items you need to complete the Enclave Library Rune Puzzle. This is much like other puzzles in Larian’s latest RPG epic where you need to obtain various different items throughout a quest to solve it and get your hands on the final loot.
In this guide, we will cover different methods to find the Rune of the Wolf in Baldur’s Gate 3 alongside the way to use it.
Different ways to get the Rune of the Wolf in Baldur’s Gate 3
There are multiple ways to obtain the Rune of the Wolf in Baldur’s Gate 3, and every one of them revolves around an NPC named Rath. The ways to get the Rune of the Wolf include:
- Stealing from Rath
- Completing the Grove questline
- Killing Rath
Stealing from Rath
This is the fastest way to obtain the Rune of the Wolf from Rath. To steal the Rune, you need to hide and get behind Rath. This will unlock a way for you to steal it from Rath by picking his pocket.
Saving Halsin from the goblin camp
Although it’s the longest way to get the Rune of the Wolf, it’s the best way in the long run. In this way, you have to save the Wood Elf named Halsin from the Goblin camp. Bringing back Halsin to Druid Grove will let you acquire Rune of the Wolf from Rath as a reward. It’ll also lead to Halsin eventually joining your squad as a companion later in the game.
Killing Rath
If you fail both ways, as mentioned above, killing Rath is your final resort. After killing Rath, you can simply loot his body and take the Rune of the Wolf. Killing Rath will make everyone in Druid Grove avenge you, ruining the entire Grove storyline.
How to use the Rune of the Wolf
Once you acquire the Rune of the Wolf using the abovementioned methods, go to the Enclave Library in the inner sanctum. In that room, you’ll find a wolf statue surrounded by four stone pedestals. Among those four stone pedestals, there’s an open socket. Use your Rune of the Wolf and slot it in after interacting with it.
After slotting in the Rune of the Wolf, touch every pedestal in the Enclave Library in any order. This will light each pedestal up and cause the Wolf statue to go down, revealing a floor with spiral stairs leading to the vault.
In the hidden vault, there are a bunch of scrolls and items that you can loot. Go to the stone table and grab the unique glaive named Sorrow. It has an Ensnaring Strike skill which allows your attacks to summon thorny vines that possibly trap your target. Despite having the Ensnaring Strike skill, it also comes with a massive drawback where the wielder takes 1 Psychic damage whenever they deal damage. To mitigate this effect, make sure to use BG3 companions like Shadowheart or Lae’zel while keeping their HP high. You can also sell this weapon and get a chunk of gold to upgrade your characters in the early game. Alongside Sorrow, you’ll also find a piece of clothing, the Robe of Summer. This robe will provide resistance to cold damage to the wearer.
That was all for the quick guide on how to obtain and use the Rune of the Wolf in Baldur’s Gate 3.
