In Baldur’s Gate 3’s Act 1 or 2, you may have encountered the House of Grief. This house holds a Mirror of Loss which, like many other mysteries in the game, may lead you on a wild Owlbear chase. As perplexing as the mirror may have been in the first two acts, there is no way to interact with it. The Mirror of Loss is supposed to be part of Shadowheart’s quest which culminates in Act 3 of the game.
If you have found it challenging to solve the Mirror of Loss puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3, we’ve got you covered.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Mirror of Loss location
The House of Grief brings you to the last part of Shadowheart’s (or Jenevelle Santos Hallowleaf’s, as you’ll soon find out) ‘Daughter of Darkness’ quest. By this point in the game, you would have realized that location names in Baldur’s Gate 3 are meant to give you an exact idea of what to expect. The house reveals several things about the cult of Shar and about Jenevelle’s story. It has to be said that this is one of the best stories in the game with some meaningful choices and heartfelt moments.
As you proceed to the lowest level of the house, you’ll come to the Chamber of Grief. This is where the last chapter of Shadowheart’s quest unfolds. Once you’ve finished the quest, you can proceed to the staircase to the left which will lead you to the mysterious Mirror of Loss.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Mirror of Loss Options
As you approach the Mirror of Loss, Shadowheart does the classic deja vu routine. Despite her previous experience with the mirror, you have to go through a level 25 difficulty check to unlock and comprehend the mirror. You can choose between an arcana or a religion check.
Once you’ve passed the checks, you have the option of accessing a memory using the mirror. By accessing the memory, the mirror unleashes a curse that reduces one of your ability scores. This is not really a penalty though, as you can have Shadowheart remove the curse and only keep the bonus using the ‘Remove Curse‘ spell.
Here is the list of memories that you can surrender and the possible outcomes.
Dialog Options | Stat Changes |
---|---|
Memories of Your Youth | -2 Strength, +1 Wisdom |
Memories of Your Strength | -2 Wisdom, +1 Strength |
Memories of Fortitude and Well Being | -2 Charisma, +1 Intelligence |
Surrender your knowledge acquired from books | -2 Intelligence, +1 Charisma |
Note: Remove Curse in Baldur’s Gate 3 is a level 3 abjuration school spell, so ensure that Shadowheart has it before proceeding.
