The First Descendant is all about the loot, there are so many sources to get some powerful and rare loot, especially if you destroy these monolithic pillars called Void Fragments. These strange-looking structures seem destructible but won’t be so easily destroyed unless you are using the right method. Here is how you can destroy them to get that sweet loot.
How to Destroy Void Fragments in The First Descendant
Void Fragments in The First Descendant can only be destroyed using abilities with a Descendant that has the same element or attribute type as the Void Fragment. So, for instance, if it requires the Electric attribute, you can be sure that Bunny can destroy it. You can hover over the Void Fragment in the region map to check which element it belongs to.
Once you have the Descendant with the right element, use their damage-dealing ability to chip away at the Void Fragment’s health until it becomes immune. At this point, a wave of enemies will spawn, which you will need to defeat before moving on to the Void Fragment again.
This will happen three times with two waves of enemies. The third time you bring down the health bar of the Void Fragment, no more enemies will spawn since it will now finally be destroyed and drop some rare loot that you won’t get outside of Void Missions called Void Shards.
Each Void Fragment, when destroyed, is going to drop different types of Void Shards like Polymer Void Shard, Organic Void Shard, Monomer Void Shard and or Inorganic Void Shard. It will also net you some Mastery XP.

How to Find Void Fragments in The First Descendant
If you are trying to find more of these Void Fragments, they will be marked on your map with an orange-colored mission icon as a “Void Mission’ type quest. Each region seems to have at least one of these, just make sure you check the element type beforehand so you can ensure its destruction when you get there.
Some Void Fragments can also be a “non-attribute” type, which means they don’t require any specific elements or attributes to be destroyed. If you do not have the Descendant with the specific attribute that a Void Fragment requires, then you have no choice but to wait until you unlock one that has it.
How to Use Void Shards in The First Descendant
Void Shards obtained from Void Fragments in The First Descendant are used to open Void Fusion Reactors. You can find these on your map as “Void Missions”, each will require a certain amount of a particular type of Void Shard.
For example, the Kingston Grand Square Void Fusion Reactor requires 12x Inorganic Void Shards and 3x Organic Void Shards. Once you have the required Void Shards, interact with the Fusion Reactor to start the mission, which will spawn a mini-boss for you to defeat.
Defeating the mini-boss along with the wave of smaller enemies will complete the mission and give you resourceful loot while also giving you access to a Reconstruction Device that can open Amorphous Materials for you. So don’t just destroy Void Fragments in The First Descendant, make sure you go and open the Void Fusion Reactors with the shards you get.
