Like other roleplaying games, Starfield allows players to have companions throughout their journey. Alongside romance, companions in Starfield also have an exciting and unique ability that many RPG fans didn’t anticipate. During the Starfield Direct showcase, one robot NPC revealed this ability by greeting Bethesda head Todd Howard as “Captain Howard.”

Confirmed Names Starfield Companions Can Say
In Fallout 4, Codsworth was able to say 924 names at launch, and then after patch 1.6, it got upped to 1224 names. As both Starfield and Fallout 4 are from the same developer, we can expect companions in Starfield to say at least those many names. However, till now, only a few names are available in the early access of Starfield, including:

Although more than 20 companions are available, for now, only Vasco can say names in Starfield. Similar to Codsworth from Fallout 4, Vasco is expected to be the only one with this ability as there are multiple Starfield companions, and it would be a huge task to do the voiceover for all of them. Furthermore, Codsworth from Fallout 4 can also say a lot of funny and indecent names, which increases the chance of Bethesda including funny names in Starfield even more. To experience the unique ability of your companion in Starfield, consider one of the aforementioned Starfield names when you start making your Starfield character and start the main quest right away. After beginning the One Small Step main quest, you’ll encounter some attacking Pirates on your way. Once you defeat those Pirates and talk to another companion and crew member, Barrett, you’ll hear Vasco say your name for the first time in Starfield.
