In Dragon’s Dogma 2, you can find various spells contained within grimoires. One of the most powerful and rarest of those grimoires is Howling Blizzard. It’s available not far from where you properly start your adventure. Getting to it will take some doing, however.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 – Where to Find Howling Blizzard
The Howling Blizzard grimoire is one of several you can use to become an apprentice to the Sorcerer Maister. As it is the most difficult of the five options to find, you’re best off saving it for later in the game, or perhaps using it for a different quest. When you’re ready to find the Howling Blizzard grimoire, look for it in the Waterfall Cave.

The Waterfall Cave is located east from Melve, at the end of a trail leading northeast from Borderwatch Outpost. See the above screenshot above, which shows its entrance location. The trail leading to the cave from the outpost ascends along some cliffs. Finally, it reaches an opening to a huge cave near a waterfall, hence its name. As you explore the cave, you’ll find places where you can head for sunlight again. Steer clear of them, instead opting to venture deeper into the darkness.

If you have a lantern and oil, use them. A lot of the corridors are fairly pretty narrow. The enemies you encounter here prove surprisingly hearty. Watch out for slimes, venomous asps, and even a few skeletal foes that really can take a beating. The cave has several floors. To reach the room with a treasure chest that contains the grimoire, you need to make your way to the area indicated on the below map screenshot, near the very back of the cave. Along the way there, you’ll have to jump over a small gap.

When you reach the destination indicated along the lower floor, look along the walls. You should find a series of stone ledges you can scale to reach the second floor. From there, head north a short distance and then veer left along a corridor. Follow that chamber to reach a wider area, which has a few enemy mobs. You will see it looks like the ruins of a magic workshop of some sort. There is a conspicuous chest, near a large stalagmite.
Open the chest to acquire the Howling Blizzard grimoire. Before you can leave and save your progress, however, you need to fight a rare monster that appears. It is a Wight. When defeated, it drops 150 RC, a Black Crystal, and the Eminent Coat. I’m not sure whether it drops that loot consistently, or if luck plays a factor. In any case, defeating your adversary takes some doing.

The Wight floats around the area, unleashing lightning magic and resisting most physical attacks pretty well. I found it was weak to fire, but I didn’t get too ambitious about attacking. I wanted to stay near my healer. The enemy is capable of taking a pretty large chunk off your life meter with some of its attacks.
Once you defeat the Wight, leave the cave and continue your adventures, now one Howling Blizzard grimoire wealthier. Don’t forget to have Ibrahim make a copy at Checkpoint Rest Town…
