According to a recent leak, FromSoftware is set to release one massive DLC for Elden Ring instead of two separate ones.
The DLCs for Elden Ring were in development since January 2022, and initially, the developer was planning on releasing both as a part of their Elden Ring season pass. However, some parts of the upcoming DLCs were added to the main game for free as an update, barring certain high value content such as map expansions and additional storylines. Now, it looks like the developer has planned to release one giant DLC, very similar to the Old Hunters DLC for their other game, Bloodborne.
The leak comes from a credible leaker, Lance McDonald, through Reddit. He claims that FromSoftware was planning on releasing two separate DLCs, one focused around Colosseums, large structures in which players could engage in PvP arena style battles. However, this update was released free to all to, according to Lance, help the developer focus solely on expansion of story through the upcoming Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree.
This news has created quite a buzz in the gaming community, with a lot of fans happily accepting this as a fine decision by the developer. Many of them are staunch fans of the studio’s other title, Bloodborne, which also received similar treatment in terms of DLCs. Some are also glad by the developer’s decision of not launching two DLCs as many perceive that the same decision in Dark Souls 3 proved to be chaotic and was disliked by the fans of that series.
FromSoftware is yet to announce any official information about the Shadow of the Erdtree Elden Ring DLC apart from its announcement in February 2023. The DLC is expected to launch in late 2023, and fans are speculating that FromSoftware might announce the release date in Summer Game Fest 2023.
