The developer of God of War series, Santa Monica Studios, has recently posted a job opening on their website that hints towards the development of a God of War: Ragnarok sequel.
The job posting states that the studio is hiring for the position of a Senior Combat Designer for Companions to join the team of God of War. In the requirements for the job, apart from various technical qualifications, Santa Monica has posted a crucial detail. It states that they are looking for a combat designer who:
“Must have knowledge of God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök (2022) and be able to speak in depth about the combat systems, mechanics, and enemies.”
It looks like the studio is hiring a combat designer for the next installment in the God of War Norse reboot series, probably for a title that will prove to be a successor to 2022’s God of War: Ragnarok. The companions mode, for which the developer is looking for talent, was introduced in 2018’s reboot of God of War, with Kratos’s son Atreus being the only companion in the first game. In God of War: Ragnarok, however, the number of companions dramatically increased, with a total of 8 companion characters for the protagonist to command and call for aid in the battles.
This new job posting could indicate inclusion of more companions and may be some more playable characters in the sequel for God of War: Ragnarok. There has not been any official announcement by Santa Monica Studios or Sony about this reboot. However, seeing how the original trilogy of God of War had three installments and the story of God of War: Ragnarok has left enough potential for continuation (though not in Norse setting) or even a major reboot, we might be in for a third God of War next-gen game.
Some fans have already started speculating which mythology might Kratos and Atreus be following in the next installment, with Japanese and Egyptian pantheons being the most popular choices.
