Remedy Entertainment, the developer behind the cult classic Alan Wake, has released a statement that offers fans an update on the status of Alan Wake 2. As per Remedy’s Q1 business review report, the sequel is inching towards the final stage of full production.
In December 2021, Remedy Entertainment had released the Alan Wake 2 announcement trailer at the Game Awards, much to the relief of players who had been asking for more. In its statement, the company added:
We have started the last major phase of full production to get the game ready for launch later this year. The project is fully staffed, but we will be able to start scaling down the team size gradually as we progress towards the launch.
What we know about Alan Wake 2
The Alan Wake 2 announcement trailer offered intriguing glimpses into what players can expect in the highly anticipated sequel. The trailer hints that the game will take place in a gothic-style city, expanding beyond the original setting of Bright Falls. The game will be powered by Remedy’s latest Northlight Engine, showcased in a Youtube video on 16th March 2023, promising stunning visual and audio experiences characteristic of Remedy’s games.
Players can anticipate the return of Alan Wake’s signature flashlight mechanics as he battles supernatural forces with light to uncover the truth behind the mysterious darkness. The trailer also hints at more action-oriented gameplay, with Alan wielding a revolver and facing off against enemies in intense combat sequences. The story is expected to continue the intricate narrative web that Remedy is known for, filled with twists and turns that will keep players on the edge of their seats.
Before Remedy’s latest release almost confirmed Alan Wake 2’s release date (or year, rather), the official website for Alan Wake 2 (www.alanwake.com) had posted that the game will come out sometime in 2023 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Safe to say, we could get our hands on the sequel this year itself. Furthermore, Remedy Entertainment’s Financial Statements from February 2023 suggest that the game is “playable from start to finish,” indicating that the development is progressing well.
While the exact release date for Alan Wake 2 has not been revealed by Remedy Entertainment, positive signs suggest that it may arrive sometime around Halloween or in the Q4 of 2023. The game already has pages on various platforms like Epic Games and PlayStation Store, which is another reason to be hyped. Since E3 2023 is not happening anymore, Remedy Entertainment will likely announce the release date with a gameplay or story trailer.
Halloween 2023 would be the perfect release date for Alan Wake 2
The Halloween season seems particularly fitting for the release of Alan Wake 2, given its supernatural and eerie themes. Moreover, Remedy Entertainment has a history of releasing their games in the fall season, with previous titles like Control and Max Payne 2 also being released in the Q3-Q4 timeframe.
