Jeopardy! Masters Season 1 – ABC
While any Jeopardy! show is a treat to watch, this spin-off will be one for the books as it will bring back several quizzing legends – Amy Schneider, Matt Amodio, Sam Buttrey, Andrew He, James Holzhauer, and Mattea Roach – for a 10-episode run.
Jeopardy! Masters premiered on ABC on May 8, and the finals will be aired on May 24. The show is hosted by Ken Jennings and is available to stream on Hulu.
Hannah Gadsby: Something Special – Netflix
We know we probably sound like a broken record by now, but that should tell you just how excited we are for this comedy special. Gadsby skyrocketed to fame after Nanette, their first comedy special with Netflix.
While Nanette narrated the story of Hannah’s life as a queer person, Douglas (second comedy special) was an outlet for their experiences with autism. Now, with Something Special, they’re here to tell a happier story – one of love – that seeks to complete the story arc.
Queen Cleopatra Limited Series – Netflix
A controversial docudrama on the Egyptian queen, Queen Cleopatra features interviews and reenactments to examine her reign. The series is produced by Jada Pinkett-Smith as part of her African Queens series. According to the producers of the series:
We explore Cleopatra’s story as a queen, strategist, ruler of formidable intellect as well as a woman whose heritage is the subject of great debate.
The Great Season 3 – Hulu
Another “anti-historical” drama on our list, The Great tells the life story of Catherine the Great, Empress of All Russia. While Queen Cleopatra is a serious narration of one queen’s life, The Great is a satirical, dark-humored fictional depiction of the Russian queen’s plot to kill her not-so-helpful husband, Emperor Peter III of Russia.
Season 3 will pick up after Catherine’s failed attempt to (reluctantly) assassinate Peter, portraying how the Queen and First Husband try their best to reconcile and co-parent their son Paul.
With an 8.2 on IMDb and 89% score on Rotten Tomatoes, this is surely a series to binge on if (inaccurate) period dramas tickle your funny bone!
Queer Eye Season 7 – Netflix
Yet another show that we can’t seem to stop talking about, Queer Eye season 7 will follow the Fab Five – Jonathan Van Ness (grooming), Bobby Berk (interior design), Antoni Porowski (food and wine), Tan France (fashion), and Karamo Brown (culture) – as they blaze their way through a new state, New Orleans.
In its seven episodes, the upcoming season will see the makeover quintet reinvent the lives and looks of a frat house, a teacher, a woman who has lost her sense of self, a man who feels like he’s barely holding it all together, and two mystery candidates.
Mulligan Season 1 – Netflix
With the rise of grown-up animated shows such as Rick and Morty, Bojack Horseman, and Big Mouth, Mulligan is definitely a series we’re looking forward to. The Daniel Radcliffe and Tina Fey-starrer is a post-apocalyptic comedy that follows humanity’s (read: America’s) attempt to rebuild society after a devastating alien attack.
There are just 1132 humans remaining, and they’ve chosen a definitely-not-qualified-enough-but-successfully-destroyed-an-alien-army handsome hunk to be their president. Whether or not that will end well, we’ll have to watch and find out.
Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 – AMC
If we had to choose the biggest title on this list, it’d be Fear the Walking Dead. Not only is this an award-winning series, but season 8 is the concluding chapter of this The Walking Dead spin-off. FTWD S8 will air in two parts – the first part will premiere on May 14, while the second one will air later this year.
But that’s not the only reason why this season is a big deal. Following the conclusion of this spin-off, fans of The Walking Dead franchise will be left without a lengthy running series set in this universe.
If you’re already a TWD fan, we don’t need to convince you to watch this show. Morgan James, one of the leading badasses from the main show, leads this spin-off that initially served as a prequel to TWD. This season, he will attempt to escape after being caught by PADRE, while also working with Madison to rescue a young girl.
