The highly anticipated Dragon’s Dogma 2 is coming out today and has been well-received by critics. However, inconsistent frame rates on PC have been a unanimous complaint among the reviewers.
Capcom offered an official statement to Eurogamer, acknowledging the issue and explaining its probable cause. The statement read,
“In Dragon’s Dogma 2, a large amount of CPU usage is allocated to each character and calculating the impact of their physical presence in various areas. In certain situations where numerous characters appear simultaneously, the CPU usage can be very high and may affect the frame rate.”
The publisher is currently looking for ways to improve the game’s performance. However, some players are perhaps reading too much into Capcom’s statement. Some have figured out an extreme solution on their own, and it involves mass murdering NPCs.
In a thread on the Dragon’s Dogma subreddit, gamers are planning to create a list of unimportant NPCs that can be eliminated without affecting crucial content/quests. Hopefully it’s just weird gamer humor, but who can really tell?
Game director Hideaki Itsuno confirmed that there would be no frame rate capping on consoles. However, several reports say Dragon’s Dogma 2 is suffering similar performance issues on consoles, where the frame rate hovers around 30 FPS.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 launches today on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
