Bethesda refuses to give up on Starfield. Ever since the game launched back in 2023, it has received a healthy dose of major and minor updates, fixing most of the launch problems and adding new content for the new and returning players. The No Man’s Sky approach to handling content creation of Starfield has kept the community active and engaged with the game, years after release.
And now with the launch on PS5, we will be seeing more new players jumping into the Starfield world with access to all of its old content and new stuff on the way. Now it’s time to look back on the humble beginnings and the updates the game received since its launch in 2023.
Here, we are going to cover all the updates Starfield received from its launch. We will be focusing on the major changes each update or patch brought to the game, and ignore minor bug fixes.
Everything Added to Starfield Since Launch
#1. September 2023: Performance and Stability
The first update, Starfield update 1.7.29, focused on improving stability on consoles and brought upon much needed improvements to framerate and lowering the rate of crashes. In the same month, we saw another update, Starfield update 1.7.33, which fixed issues with characters, star stations, and vendors.
#2. October 2023 – FOV Slider

In the next month, Starfield update 1.7.36 was released, which added the option of FOV sliders. Players of both perspectives (first or third person) could change their FOV scaling according to their experience. The changes to the FOV scaling option were added to PC and the consoles. Aside from FOV changes, the patch focused on improving the performance and clearing out some quest-related bugs.
#3. November 2023 – DLSS on RTX Cards
November 2023 saw Starfield receive the DLSS frame generation patch in the Starfield Update 1.8.86. The patch added the option to improve performance for Nvidia RTX cards. The update also added the feature to eat food directly from the environment. Before the update, players had to store the food in their inventory, and then it would be ready for consumption.
#4. December – Space Travel Fix
The update 1.8.88 fixed an issue where space matter will get stuck to the ship during space travel, with some minor fixes.
#5. January 2024 – More Patches
Update 1.9.51 saw a slew of changes to animation, creatures, and crew, and many general fixes to the game. One of the highlights was the ultrawide support for 32:9, 21:9, and 16:10.
#6. February 2024 – FSR 3 and Support for Intel’s XeSS

Starfield update 1.9.67 added FSR 3 (AMD FidelityFXTM) support for AMD graphics card users and support for Intel’s XeSS technology (Intel Xe Super Sampling). Other fixes focused on improving DLSS in performance mode and making minor changes.
#7. March 2024: Improvement to Photo Mode
Patch 1.10.32 added more emotes or expressions in photo mode and removed the bug of some characters repeating the same line of dialogue over and over again. The patch also focused on improving performance, environmental objects, and gameplay changes.
#8. May 2024: Map Extension
The patch 1.11.33 raised the map boundaries in Starfield and added the option to give books to Cora for XP. We also saw gameplay options for difficulty settings in the ground and ship combat. The update also added the option to decorate your Starborn ship, a framerate option for consoles, and, lastly, allowed the scanner to identify POI names at a distance.
#9. June 2024: Creation went Live
Update 1.12.30 brought Creation to Starfield and allowed mod options to the game. Players immediately gained access to new missions, gear, skins, and more in exchange for Creation Credits. The patch also added the option to download the Creation Kit for Starfield to create your own experience. Along with Creations, the game received new Tracker Alliance missions (bounty hunting) and an option for crafting ammo.
#10. August 2024: Rev- 8 Vehicle
Patch 1.13.61 added the option to purchase the Rev-8 vehicle from the Ship Technician. And for Xbox Series S users, they gained access to performance options.
#11. September 2024: Shattered Space Expansion

The very first expansion, Shattered Space, dropped with a lot of fanfare. The expansion added more story content about the cult, gameplay options, weapons, and more.
#12. July 22 2025: Creation Update
After the Shattered Space Expansion, the only changes we saw were made to Creations, the official modding service. Update 1.15.222 also made changes to the Creations and other minor fixes.
The rate of updates died out until Bethesda announced the Free Lane and Terran Armada DLC, promising to breathe new life into the game. So far, the offerings we have seen, we can certainly assume the new PS5 players are in for a treat.
#13. April 7: Free Lane and Terran Armada DLC

Since there are so many things packed in this update, we will be focusing on the highlights to give you the best part of the update.
PS5 Release
Today, Starfield launches on PS5 with the option for the Starfield Standard Edition and Premium Edition.
- Starfield Standard Edition: It comes with only the base game.
- Starfield Premium Edition: The premium edition offers the base game, Terran Armada/ Shattered Space DLCs, 1000 Creation Credits, Constellation skin pack, digital artbook, and OST.
More Tracker Alliance Missions
Now the next Starfield update will bring up a whole lot of new content that includes more Tracker Alliance missions (bounty hunting), starting with the patch 1.12.30. The game is said to receive 5 new bounty hunting contracts, raising the overall contracts to 7.
Note: You will need Creation Credits to play the contracts. But if you own The Vulture contract, you can play the new bounty contracts for free.
Free Lane DLC
Free Lane opens up for swift travel in space. Now, you can activate the cruise mode and fly between planets. There are no limitations, just get in cruise mode, and you can explore the space at your own pace. The Free Lane DLC added many POIs that automatically pop up in your journey.
X-Tech
Part of the Free Lane update is the X-Tech, allowing you to enhance and customize your weapons, gear, and ships to a new league. X-Tech also lets you re-roll your legendary effects to choose the one that meets your option of destruction.
Terran Armada
Just like Shattered Space, Terran Armada will introduce a new storyline and companions. new incursions, and more content.
Other changes are being made to the Starborn abilities; now you can rank them up using Quantum Essence without playing it on NG+. Speaking of NG+, now when you start NG+, you can bring your old favorite item with you. Alongside these massive changes, the update also adds new ship modules, action hero collectibles, new elite crew, new land vehicle, asteroid base home, and more.
